UltimateBet Attempts to Resolve Cheating Scandal - Jennifer Newell on Monday July 21st , 2008

After months of uncertainty and lack of communication, UltimateBet finally attempted to resolve the recent heating scandal just before the start of the 2008 World Series of Poker. Allegations were brought to the attention of the online poker site in January of 2008; UltimateBet publicly acknowledged them in March, and the official statement about the scandal’s resolution was released on May 29—likely in response to an outcry from players and forum posters regarding UB’s seeming lack of concern about this issue.

The long-awaited statement let it be known that the investigation, which was initiated by reports of unfair play by “NioNio,” a suspicious account tied to others that had “superuser” tendencies, was complete. Tokwiro Enterprises, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, and Gaming Associates completed a review and the findings were as follows:

A number of player accounts did have an unfair advantage at the high-stakes online poker tables, and those players worked for the previous owners of UltimateBet prior to the purchase of the site by Tokwiro in October of 2006... read more

Donna MarksFlorida’s Seminole Hard Rock Casino Features Class III Gaming - Donna Marks on Wednesday July 23rd , 2008

I attended the opening of the Class III gaming at Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida. It’s a milestone for Florida because up until recently they have only had Class II slots, low-limit poker, and Vegas style slots.

Now all of that changed. On June 22, 2008 the first hand of blackjack was dealt to Carmen Electra, Lorraine Bracco, Ron Patterson, and other celebrities, including Gino Torretta, Alonzo Mourning, Cornelius Bennett, Dwayne Wade, Greg Gumble, Henri Crockett, Eddie Jones, Bob Kuechenberg, Nat Moore, O... read more

Barbara ConnorsFeeling Up Your Opponents - Barbara Connors on Tuesday July 22nd , 2008

Feeler bets serve a number of purposes. First and foremost, they provide information about the strength, or lack thereof, of your opponent’s holdings.

But feelers can also have bluffing value—if your opponent didn’t hit anything on the flop, there’s always a chance he’ll fold to the first player who bets... read more

In order to make money playing limit hold’em, one must play well. In order to maximize money playing limit hold’em, one must also strive to convince other players that you don’t play as well as you really do.
