State Panel Considers
Barring Former Casino Executive
Former Caesar's Atlantic City Hotel president Gary DiBartolomeo, 45,
faces the prospect of being barred from working in casinos in New
Jersey. The Division of Gaming Enforcement indicates that DiBartololmeo's
problems stem from questionable financial transactions, broken promises,
and a compulsive gambling addiction which led to a licensing hearing
in 1995. The license was renewed on the condition that the casino
executive cease gambling and attend Gamblers Anonymous meetings. Since
that date, state investigators state, DiBartolomeo failed to attend
meetings and continued to gamble, racking up six figure losses, borrowing
from friends to cover these losses, and lying about his activities.
Chairman James Hurley of the Casino Control Commission has forty-five
days to make a decision in the matter before it is submitted to the
five member board for ratification. DiBartolomeo's attorneys have
stated that the former high ranking executive has now controlled the
"demons" within him and should be allowed to continue working at Caesars
in the capacity of Vice President of Public Development.
