The Ten Rules of Football Wagering
By Ernie Kaufman
Okay, so you wind up in the state of Nevada
during any part of the fall or winter season. You love football
and you're a bit of a wagerer. That's right; you're going
to bet on a few games every weekend. The question is: what
can you do to increase the probability of winning more games
than you lose?
Very simple! Just follow these ten basic rules
of football handicapping and you'll drastically swing the
odds in your favor!
THE TEN RULES
Rule # 1 Look to wager
on the pointspread underdogs more often than the pointspread
favorites. Underdogs do much better due to the fact that
most people are wagering the favorites which drives up the
the price (pointspread). The underdog is usually undervalued.
Rule # 2 Look to wager on home teams, especially underdogs,
in all intradivisional games. (teams that play each other
twice per season
Rule # 3 Always wager on the Monday night
home team. Once again, especially if they are the underdog.
Rule # 4 Look to wager against any team that played on Monday
night and are on the road during the same week.
Rule # 5
Take the NFC to cover the pointspread against the AFC.
Rule
# 6 Wager against any NFL team that has a two or more game
lead in their division standings at any point of the season.
Rule # 7 Wager against any road team that won their last
game played by 21 or more points.

underdog that has a better won-lost record (straight-up)
